Facebook Face Recognition

Facebook is taking over the world

Do you ever get the feeling that Facebook is really just Skynet? (From the movie Terminator.) And if you have seen the movie franchise you know that becoming self-aware is going to be a problem for the human race.  Facebook seems to keep pushing the boundaries of where the line is regarding online privacy, and that is stirring up a bit of controversy.  The latest technology is face recognition.  Facebook is now trying to recognize people in pictures before you decide to tag them.

Tagging is an easy way to share pictures and memories over a wide range of networks but what happens if you are someone like me who doesn’t want everyone to see me hanging out at the beach, or sitting at my desk at work?  (Yes, sometimes pictures are taken of me updating this blog.  We clearly are out of control.)  The most logical thing is to get rid of Facebook all together but if you need to keep Skynet around, here are some ways to keep your privacy, or what is left of it, secure via Kit Eaton at Fast Company.
